| Welcome to the 2009 Portsmouth High School Boys' Soccer Program!! LINK for schedules/bus departures/away game directions is: For those who could not make the Parent Meeting:
- Booster Club> officers introduced themselves
- Ari Nathans and Judy Esposito- co-chairs, Dan Main- Treasurer, Peter Coren- Secretary
- We are a pretty low-key club, maintain a workable, not excessive treasury eliminating need for grand fund raising ventures, support the needs of the coaches and the players, contribute toward the purchase of uniforms and agility equipment, provide a lunch option for long away games, support the jamboree and the Joan Coffey Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Boys Soccer website> www.phsboyssoccer.org
- will be updated soon with the help of Kathy Fisher, mother of Edward French, 2013. To contact Kathy: Fisherks@comcast.net
- Lunch arrangements> Celebrity Sandwich option
- At the moment, the form reflects only the V/JV games as they travel together. If there is interest in the Reserve team, please let either Judy or I know and we will put a form together for the team. For each away game of some distance, a parent is needed to pick up the sandwiches, have a cooler ready and have them at the high school ready to load on the bus. The same or another parent must have collected the funds and pay Celebrity Sandwiches. In addition, immediate notification upon the cancellation of a game due to rain may save your sandwiches for the next game, otherwise, they must still be picked up and the boys should get them from the cooler. There are no refunds.
- There appeared to be significant interest in continuing the lunch option started last year, purchasing sandwiches through Celebrity Sandwich for each away game that involves a great distance. Lunch forms have been passed out and are also attached to this email. If interested, please fill out form according the precise directions, return form either to coach or in mail along with check to: Ari Nathans, 62 Taft Road, Portsmouth 03801 by September 3rd. The additional dollar per game this year will provide water, snack and dessert. Call/Email with any further questions. Please read the form very carefully. Nicole Perl has kindly offered to resume her pick up of the sandwiches for JV and Varsity for each of the away games for which sandwiches will be provided. Thank you, Nicole!
- Apparel orders> new offerings this year
- You should receive an apparel order form via email tomorrow after I have confirmed a few things with Coach Piper. In addition to long sleeve jerseys and sweatshirts, we are offering sweatpants, dry-fit t-shirts in two colors, and a soft-shell jacket. If your son is interested in playing indoor soccer this coming season, please consider purchasing a white dry-fit shirt as this is the light color shirt worn as part of our uniform. Boosters has provided the necessary dark color shirt. Note the date that the form must be returned. You are welcome to hand them to me at games, along with a check, or please email them to Roari17@aol.com
- Tagging information, sign-ups>Labor Day Weekend
- Ann Barton is reprising her role as Tagging Officianado, and we are all very grateful to her. Parents of underclassmen should be considering stepping into this role for next year, as this is our biggest fundraiser. Parent help is still needed in the way of drivers of players to and from tagging sites as well as to help with the money. Contact Ann to offer your support.
- Spaghetti dinner sign-ups>
- Each team has a sign-up sheet. I will send along info regarding those dates that parents signed up for at the meeting. This information can also be updated to the website. Please consider hosting a dinner prior to the games as this enriches the team experience.
- Banquet sign-ups>end of the season
- The Boosters Club puts on the banquet at the conclusion of the season. It is pot-luck style, held in the PHS cafeteria, with each class or team assigned specific donation to bring. Information will be forthcoming as the season concludes. We have several parents who have offered to coordinate the food, and two signed up for set-up, many for clean-up. Other tasks include: invitations, decorations, slide show, gift purchases, raffle ticket sales. Let me know if you are able to participate.
- Other fund raising ideas>
- We seem to have a thriving treasury and didn't see the immediate need for further efforts. The board will re-evaluate when the proceeds from tagging are finalized.
- Meet the coaches> Coach Piper, Coach LeBlanc, Coach Coren, Rus Wilson, AD
- Rus Wilson- Portsmouth AD spoke at the outset of the meeting, wished all a good season, and emphasized the expectation that our boys will maintain their scholastic efforts and responsible behavior, necessary in order to remain a viable team member. He anticipates the PHS soccer teams will go far this year.
- Peter Coren- was introduced during the meeting as the summer and indoor soccer coach. His efforts enable the boys to have the opportunity to keep their foot on a soccer ball year round. Many thanks to Peter.
- Coach Piper- introduced Coach LeBlanc after their practice. They wished the parents to know that they are looking for outstanding effort on the part of the players, during games and practices- arriving on time, ready to play, staying the entire time, giving a full effort. Socks should arrive for the next game.
